Cast: Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler
Run time: 112minutes
DVD by: Home Entertainment Services by Sony Dadc
This 112-minute film begins with Adam Sandler (Jim) and Drew Barrymore (Lauren) on a blind date at Hooters. Jim and Lauren have been set up by friends and the date is not going quite well. Jim cannot quit ogling the waitresses, and Lauren nearly chokes on a shrimp. Low-grade, PG-13 insults fly and each storm off into the night to rejoin the children at home. Jim is the father of three girls, Hilary (Bella Thorne), Espn (Emma Fuhrmann) and Lou (Alyvia Alyn Lind); Lauren is raising two rowdy boys, Brendan (Braxton Beckham) and Tyler (Kyle Red Silverstein). Jim's wife died of cancer, but Lauren and ex-husband (Joel McHale) are not meant to be. Fate steps in when an unexpected connection between Lauren's co-worker Jen (McLendon-Covey) and Jim's boss results in both families going on a safari vacation for blended families at the same African resort.
The extra features are the only savior in this DVD. While the film gets a thumbs down its extra features get thumbs up. It includes a Gag Reel, some Deleted Scenes, Georgia promo spot and a number of Behind-the-Scenes that reveal the cast having more fun making the film than you will have watching it. Also, it includes how actress Bella Thorne was transformed into her role for Blended. That feature hardly made a difference but fans of the actress can totally watch it. Thanks to the Gag Reel video and special Adam and Drew reunite feature, which saved the day. Sandler may not be funny in the film but the on the sets action shows what a funny man he is. The DVD also offers subtitles in many languages, some of which are French, Italian, Dutch, and Arabic. Also, the flawless HD quality of the 16:9 wide screen and that of the Dolby Digital sound adds more to this film.
Final thoughts: Blended is not as impactful, funny or romantic like 50 First Dates was but for all you light hearted romantic lovers watch the film to watch Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore recreate their magic on screen. The film is a onetime watch. But do add this to your DVD rack for some fun blooper reel to look out for!
