Arjun - The Warrior Prince

Arjun - The Warrior Prince

Arjun – The Warrior Prince is by far the most superior animation film produced in India. The film is technologically advanced and has an equally good story to complement the graphics and special effects.

The film narrates the epic tale of Mahabharata keeping the character of Arjun as the focus point. The plot, told as a bedtime story to restless boy involves the fight for a throne, archery competition and a full blown big battle. At no point the film becomes boring and heavy on the head. The story will have an instant connect with the kids as well as the mature audience.

The director, Arnab Chaudhuri smartly uses all the action sequences to the keep the audience gripped. The amazing animation and graphics by Tata Elxsi's Visual Computing Labs are the high points of the film. The attention to detail is amazing. Watch out for the Swayamvar scene in which Arjun shoots the golden fish. It’s colourful and exuberant and leaves you asking for more. The sound technicians and voice artists too have done a good job.

On the flip side, due to the entire focus on Arjun, many aspects of the Mahabharata are missed out. The songs in the film, though good, act as a speed breaker and reduce the pace of the film.

Overall, Arjun – The Warrior Prince is thoroughly enjoyable film. India has a rich mythological heritage and if it does well, Disney hopefully would tap more into the mother lode.
